United Way of North Central Mississippi supports fifteen agencies throughout Oktibbeha, Choctaw, Winston, and Webster counties. Of these fifteen agencies, a majority of them are devoted to making a special impact in the children of their community. Boy Scouts of America plays a key role in the lives of young men aged 6 to 21 across the United States. The local council, Pushmataha Area Council is located in Columbus, Mississippi. It covers ten counties which include the four that UWNCM covers.
It is essential for youth to be physically active and mentally prepared for their future. These young men learn multiple skills by engaging in this significant program. The scouts are mentored throughout their service while enhancing their leadership skills and building enormous character. Self-esteem and confidence is instilled by awarding patches to scouts for accomplishing projects in various areas. Also, there are several activities and events within this organization that will allow each member to explore their personal interests.
Boy Scouts of America, Pushmataha Area Council oversees 1,100 members while having over 300 volunteers yearly. The organization is effectively shaping the youth to be active citizens within their communities all over the United States. Being a part of this agency is an incredible achievement and will continue to impact the lives of many throughout the future. UWNCM is more than proud to support the Boy Scouts of America’s mission and accomplishments locally and nationwide. Scout Executive, Jeremy Whitmore states, “As an original member agency with the United Way we appreciate their continued support as we deliver Scouting's objectives of character development, citizenship training, and personal fitness to over 500 youth in the four county service area of the United Way of North Central Mississippi.”
